Plant Tour To Amar Ujala


Kanpur institute of management studies organized an industrial visit on 7 Oct 2017 to AMAR UJALA PVT. LTD. Located in Dada Nagar in Kanpur for the students of MBA & PGDM.
The visit was organized under the supervision and guidance of Director Dr. Dhramendra Varshney & Dean Academics Prof. Altaf Quaiyum , relevant permissions were also taken by Shri Gaurav Rathi (admin. Officer AMAR UJALA group).

The aim of this plant visit was:

To make the students aware of the working environment and practices followed in Press industry.

Provide an interactive platform for students with printing experts.

Analysis of the work practices of the organization.

The zeal of students to learn was evident with the fact that they were curious to know more about the management and operation practices that were followed in the printing press.
Amar Ujala is India’s third largest Hindi-language daily newspaper with 19 editions in 7 states and 1 union territory covering 179 districts. With a total daily readership of 30.13 million readers (Source: IRS 2012 Q4), making it one of the most widely read broad-sheet newspaper in India and a circulation base of 2.93 million copies (Source: ABC Jan-June 2016).
It covers Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Haryana, Chandigarh Punjab Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh.
It’s one of the fastest growing major daily newspapers in India. The circulation of Amar Ujala increased by 18% from 2.49 million per day in first half of 2015 (Source: ABC Jan-June 2015) to 2.93 million per day in first half of 2016 (Source: ABC Jan-June 2016), and holds the number 1 position in Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu. The visit commenced with a warm welcome of the students by Amar Ujala Printing Manager, Mr. Himashu Dwivedi.
The visit was carried forward in two groups of students by the printing incharge, Mr. Dwivedi & Team members.The visit included a tour to the printing process of Amar Ujala and the processing of their Commercial Section. Students got hands on experience about printing, cutting, folding, assembling etc.
Various general and technical questions were asked by students like the TURNOVER OF THE PRINTING PRESS, NUMBER OF WORKERS, WORKING OF DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS, RECYCLING OF WASTE MATERIALS, TYPES OF PAPERS USE ETC. The thrilling moment was when a dummy session of printing, cutting and folding of the newspaper was done. Within fraction of seconds, a large sheet was cut and given 16 folds for ready reading. All the queries were handled in detailed & satisfactory manner by the factory supervisors. The overall experience was enriching and acquainted for the students with the knowledge of management principles in practice.

Students learnt many things related to management which is as follows:

1-How to collect authentic information from Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh.

2-The most important factor we got the method of sequencing the news before printing.

3-Coordination between editing and printing departments.

4-Cost management through advertisement.

5-Optimization of machines & equipments.

6-Regular maintenance of all the printing machines.

7-Proper use of communication channels for sending and receiving news.

8-Time Management

Such visits not only help in skill specialization but also help in mastering entrepreneurial techniques.
